After years of tinkering with cars and machinery, I stumbled upon the world of 3D printing and it completely changed my life. What started as a hobby soon turned into a passion, as I discovered the endless possibilities of creating functional prints. From simple trinkets to complex prototypes, I found myself immersed in the world of 3D printing, constantly pushing the boundaries of what I could create, or what problem to solve. With each new project, I became more skilled and confident in my abilities, and before I knew it, I was sharing my creations with the world. The journey from tinkering to mastering the art of 3D printing has been an incredible one, filled with challenges and triumphs. It took me a while to figure out my printer and 3D modelling, but I am grateful for the journey and excited to see where it will take me next.
3D Printing as a hobby
3D Printing for me is as essential as using a phone or driving a car.
It always begins with a problem or an idea to upgrade. The need to fix something right here right now is well known for any DIY'er and another trip to hardware store is just not an option. It is so convenient and easy to make a thing that you need it is surprising that all households don't have it yet!
This hobby requires few essentials: tinkering, patience and critical thinking. Problem solving goes deeper, as you not only solve your initial problem, but troubleshooting the whole process along the way. There is so much that can go wrong before it goes right and it only comes with experience - you can't buy that knowledge and constant failure and trial and error is the only way to grow.
The machine:
You are as good as the tools yo use and you must know them well. FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) is the way to go for many printing enthusiasts. There are many options and brands to choose from for beginners and pros alike. I settled for Creality Ender series as it has a large consumer base, a lot of guides online and huge community around the world. After purchase I started modding it immediately, adding all the bells and whistles, printing parts for the machine (yes, that is a machine that can upgrade itself!) that increased it's speed, quality and potential. It took me 1.5 years to master this skill, and yet everyday I find place for improvement.
Models, modelling and things to print
You can find almost anything online. Fidgets, boxes, toys, tools, holders and the list goes on and on. There is situations where you cannot find the thing you need and that's where the modelling comes into play. Ability to sculpt a thing in 3d space is a game changer and I could not imagine living without it. I usually use Onshape, but honorable mentions are Autodesk's Fusion 360 and Sketchup (for really simple things).
What is it that I do?
